As from 1st September, I’ll be writing a regular blog on www.pallatrax.co.uk covering all things piscatorial (and probably some not so) as we head into autumn and winter…Actually, hold on just one minute! To go into autumn, that would mean we had a summer? If anybody out there has got evidence of the summer please forward all relevant details.

Gloucestershire YouthMyself and James Anderson met up with the Gloucestershire  youth service for a weekends angling tuition on Watermarks Little Horseshoe, where the young people learnt rigs and there mechanisms, fish care, feature finding, spodding and casting techniques.

Tom and Ashley Phipps, Jake Richens, Adam Stellard  and Tom Boulton  each caught several carp , all caught  on the stonze system and Pallatrax crave.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to Pallatrax for sponsoring the event and their support.

If your interested in booking a angling tuition session or a group booking call Lee Pollard on 07738939219.

Since I started using Stonze back in June 2007, I have had quite a few anglers tell me that they can’t cast a Stonze very far or very accurately or that they are only OK for casting up to 60yards. Well these anglers are all wrong.  Most anglers who say this have probably never even tried Stonze or haven’t taken the time to experiment.

After fishing the Carp Society’s Horseshoe Lake (65acres) and Watermark’s Bradleys (165 acres) for sometime and fishing at long ranges, I have not struggled in any way to reach 100 yards plus with these Stonze and accuracy hasn’t been an issue either!

Each Stonze is naturally unique in size, shape, colour and weight, so you can always find a Stonze to suit your angling situation.

I decided to fish my favourite local venue, Pallington Lakes, which is situated in the Dorset countryside. Fish go up to 40lb in the lakes, but just the chance of some surface action was good enough for me. I arrived at the lake around midday as the weather would be approaching its warmest stages, hopefully giving the carp time to rise up in the water layers. To my disbelief I found only 2 other anglers on the complex so I had almost 3 lakes to myself.

After a lap of the usual hot spots it was clear the carp weren’t playing ball as not one dog biscuit was taken. Maybe today was to be harder than I first thought.
As I began the second lap I noticed the reeds twitch on one of the islands, in a relatively sheltered area of the lake. That was the only sign of a fish I had seen so far so I decided to hang around a bit longer. Using the catapult I fired 3 pouches of dog biscuits along the reedline. Almost as soon as they landed the unmistakable slurp from a carp was heard. ... Read More »
