Like everyone else, fishing during Jan and Feb was affected by the never ending Siberian winter with snow and ice seemingly lasting for weeks... nope, hold on a moment, it did last for weeks!

Eventually, global warming kicked in again and the snow and Ice left us.. yeah, because it;s so much warmer now at the End of April!

This break from fishing had given me the chance to do some work on my new floating sanity box. Otherwise known as a boat. We purchased her back in August and did a lot of work over the winter getting her looking like new (ish) and ready for the boating season. 12th March saw the re-launch and you can guess what happened on 13th and 14th? Yep, some fishing, however, with the river in flood the only option available was to stay in the marina and fish.

'Nauticaleigh' sitiing on her berth.

What a result that was! The fish in the Marina were seemingly ravenous and in two days just fishing from the back of the boat I caught rakes of big perch, bream and some Tench. Great fun indeed and very easy fishing:

That's Handy

With only one channel feeding the marina there is no flowing water running through the marina and as such the marina is classed as a stillwater and can remain open for fishing all year long... result!

With that in mind, most weekends have seen the 'dangling' of a worm at some point and the perch just kept on coming, and the tench and bream. As you may have seen from the Anglers Mail, even the kids joined in the action and we had a load of fish with Jessica and Cameron both catching Perch that most adults would dream of catching.

Guests on Board

With a Pallatrax meeting required and also appearing at the Tench Fishers AGM what better place to hold a meeting than on the boat! With the dates sorted Simon was soon on board. The meeting went well, the fishing was good too and using a selection of the new Naturals Range of groundbaits and hookbaits a number of nice Tench and Perch were caught along with a couple of Bream with the biggest going a shade over 8lb.

April continued in fine form and just grabbing a couple of hours here and there at the weekends on the boat I've managed to land more Tench and Perch. The last trip out saw me pull out of an upper 20 mirror carp which after playing it on 4lb line, size 12 hook and a float rod in quite a confined swim with all the boats about was quite devastating. However, liberal applications of the new boilies will soon see me targetting the many carp in the marina with the right gear and I look forward to seeing what jewels it can throw up!

With a busy workload and getting the new Pallatrax brochure ready for the printers I've not been fishing in May yet and the only fishing related excercise was a stand at the Barbel Society show - Running Water 2010... I'll update an overview of that event in the next couple of days.

In the meantime as always.. Tight Lines!
