Lewis Swift on Pallatrax Minimize

Lewis SwiftPallatrax products have been part of my fishing artillery for the last 5 years now.  Whether it be for carp, roach or barbel, the system is always incorporated in my approach. Even when not using a piece of tackle from Pallatrax, their flavours are a personal favourite. Over-spraying my dog biscuits and even maggots with these flavours has, undoubtedly, brought me a bonus fish or two since I started using them.

I have been fishing at Pallington Lakes for several years now, which not only is one of the best kept fisheries I’ve ever fished, but it is also the current home for the manufacture of Pallatrax baits. After just one lap of the lakes it is easy to see that Pallatrax has had a huge influence on the way each angler fishes, not only here but wherever they decide to go. What is also emptying lakes around the country and on the continent at the moment are the awesome Pallatrax boilies with fish up to 60lb being taken on them.
This shows the rig a Pallington Regular used to catch one of its biggest Residents in the shape of this 38lb Common. The bait used is Jungle Paste wrapped round a stone with an 18mm Pommes hookbait

Over the last few weeks I have been fortunate enough to have been welcomed behind the scenes at Pallatrax headquarters somewhere in the wilderness of the Dorset countryside. After the initial oath of swearing not to tell anyone about any of the ingredients used, so on and so on, it was time to crack on.

Even after the first day I began to see not only the sheer amount of time and effort put into the making of each boilie but the quality of the ingredients used to do so. The other factor that became obvious was that the process used to make each boilie involved 9 stages, which I won’t list, and to cap that of, it’s all done by hand. Now I’m sure other companies do some jobs by hand but not here at Pallatrax they do it the hard way, as this ensures every single bait can be sent out with 100% confidence in its fish catching abilities. When it comes to packing the bait there is a rule that Pom uses which is ‘If you wouldn’t use it yourself don’t pack it.’  This means that misshaped boilies are put aside, deemed unsuitable for selling, whereas other companies such as Mainline leave all their off cuts in the pack. This not only results in better value for your money it also means that all the baits a customer receives are suitable for using.
Pallatrax do not just specialise in baits either they have a wide range of tackle to offer, which I take full advantage of. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these products to any angler as I genuinely feel that the quality can’t be beaten.

When starting a session, my first choice hooklink material is definitely the ‘Steamlink’ which I believe is unrivalled in the coated braid scenario. Having previously used the Korda version ‘Hybrid’ and ESP version ‘Stripteaze,’ I came across certain problems, such as stripping the coating back and a few other little flaws that the ‘Steamlink’ didn’t have.  After that, I think you can guess which products ended up in the bin and which won the precious space in my tackle box.

The Pallatrax hooks are another winner for me, being the sharpest I have come across so far, almost to the extent of not wanting to test their sharpness, because you just know its going to hurt every time!

To add more appeal, the hooks are available in sizes 2-14 which as far as I know is only done by one or two other companies. Therefore, almost any coarse fishing situation can be dealt with, solely with the use of a single range of hooks.

I have been using The Method now for 2 seasons and have tried, tested and discarded many companies attempts at method, which is where the Pallatrax Method comes into its own.  I simply can’t find a fault with it.   Extremely well binding and when used in conjunction with the Stonze (preferably in-line) and virtually any bait, a bite can be guaranteed. Many people automatically reject the thought of using the method for big fish. Quite simply, they are wrong to do so, as I have taken fish up to 30lb as have many other people I know, on this exact set up and they cannot fault the system. The method always has a place in my gear, I will just simply not go fishing without it.
Overall, I think Pallatrax has revolutionised certain areas in fishing such as the Stonze System and other products in the form of The Steamlink and The Method, all of which are produced to the highest standards possible.
