Mark Owen target achieved with ‘Birthmark’ at 42lb at Emperor lakes

Over the last few years, this fish has been teasing me!! I have on a number of occasions been present when she has graced the bank, recalling at least four times photographing this fish for other anglers. With my session on Emperor lakes syndicate drawing to a close, it seemed she had evaded capture once again! But at 3.30am on Sunday, my middle rod gave a couple of bleeps before it screamed into life. After an epic battle I was soon peering down at a large mirror sulking in my landing net.

It wasn’t until I had the fish in the cradle that I realised my target fish of the last 4 years was staring back at me. After giving out a couple of whoop whoops; I hoisted her up to the scales where they settled on a very pleasing 42lb!

The fish fell to a Pallatrax Jungle snowman, fished with a size 6 ‘The Hook’, 15lb Pallatrax braid with stiff mono to create a combi rig, in conjunction with a medium silt coloured Stonze. This in turn was fished over a kilo of Jungle 14mm boilies.
